Cause to be Alarmed

I just talking to our Idaho legislators as they toured the state as part of the "Legislative listening tour" and is alarmed. No, downright scared for Idaho's future.I am not sure people have yet gathered the implications of the Idaho budget.

On education, parents of students in rural areas should be scared that the new budget cuts will significantly harm their children. The predominantly Republican legislature has treated education as their piggy band. But it going to have far-reaching consequences.  read more »

Absolute Bullshit but the ISU Administration

There is so much bullshit being sold to students, they should issue a pair of waders when you pay your student fees. Here is an outline of concerns.

A. The re organization- Provost Olsen came to the Student Senate meeting and promised students would be involved with the re-org. But no students were on any of the [hand picked by administration] committee. Then even after the committees were selected, they were not allowed to have budget information that could have informed their decisions. THEN even after that, not ONE of the committee's suggestions was included in the final plan.  read more »

Good-Bye "Arts & Sciences"

I am going to say my goodbyes right now. I am saying good-by to the "College of Arts and Sciences" at Idaho State University.

For those of you who haven't been paying attention, ISU is in a "reorganization" process. There are several committees of people who are helping the ISU Administration look at ways of strengthening the University. Not many students, but many people. As to what "strengthening" means, that has also remained ambiguous.  read more »

I can't help myself...

Political Machine story.

This is not the first button mistake I've seen coming from Idaho. The first button mistake came in the fall of last year. Luckily it was a small run.

They say these things come in 3s. I am curious when the next button error

Tom "Never Came Home" too

Some mornings I remember what is really important. Today is one of them. This post isn't about Joseph Dwyer, this is about Tom, patriotism, and sacrifice. It all started with the quote about Dwyer,
"Joseph never came home."

I was reading this article, "Iraq Vet in Famous Press Photo Dies from Overdose"
from Crooks and Liars

And that line haunts me ..."Joseph never came home".
Home.  read more »

I hate it when people do their jobs

I subscribe to the Human Events mailing list. Its super right-wing stuff but sometimes its just so great I have to laugh. Its not easy being a conservative with logic and fairness against you so often. Here is part of an e-mail I got yesterday.

"Dear Fellow Conservative:
The Middle East: it's a region that's almost never off the front pages -- yet it's an area that most Americans know little about.
And most of what they think they know is wrong.  read more »

Getting Idaho To Netroots, Beer by Beer

I’m very proud to announce that I have been given a scholarship by Democracy for America to Netroots Nation in Austin, TX, July 17-20th. One of the reasons I applied for the scholarship is that I’m excited to bring more online grassroots efforts back to Idaho. But to do so, I need a little help from Idaho bloggers.

Okay, this was a bit part, but I can't believe it went uncommented on.

Bannock County Democrats Help End Homelessness

The Idaho Progressive Student Alliance (IPSA) an student organization from ISU, held their 3rd Annual To the Streets Homeless Awareness Event last night on the ISU Quad. They had about 50-80 people attend and just 1 hour into the event had raised over $300 for the Southeast Idaho Aid for Friends Homeless services. While the issue of homelessness is a community issue, this event is intimately connected to the Democrats of Southeast Idaho. While IPSA is a non-partisan politically active group, this event to me seemed intimately connected to Democrats.  read more »

Beware the Communist Pigs

"There was a Chemistry professor in a large college that had some exchange students in the class. One day while the class was in the lab the Prof noticed one young man (exchange student) who kept rubbing his back and stretching as if his back hurt.

The professor asked the young man what was the matter. The student told him he had a bullet lodged in his back. He had been shot while fighting communists in his native country who were trying to overthrow his country's government and install a new communist government.  read more »
